Parliament House, Edinburgh – Bed & Mattress Renewal Project

Steeped in history, the Parliament House Hotel is located in a Georgian townhouse that was once home to notable figure’s in Scottish history, including Robert Logan, the founder of the Carmelite Monastery in 1513 and James Lord Balmerino. Lord Balmerino was instrumental in pioneering the formation of the ‘Incorporated Trades of Caldtoun and lands of Caldtounhill’ in 1631.

Today, the Parliament House Hotel maintains its historic charm while offering modern amenities to guest’s. The building’s original architecture and decor have been preserved, giving visitor’s a glimpse into Edinburgh’s storied past.

Nestled at the foot of Calton Hill in Edinburgh city centre, the Parliament House Hotel is just a short walk from the east end of Princes Street and Waverley Train Station. The hotel’s unique buildings come from two different periods in history, featuring both Old Town and New Town style architecture. Recently refurbished to a high standard, all the hotel’s 53 rooms with private en-suite bathrooms are thoughtfully designed for complete comfort and relaxation.

The historic building is characterised by beautiful Scottish wood panels and Victorian features. With the master suite’s overall charm further enhanced by a private open fire and panoramic views of the city centre.

At Glencraft, we strive to build meaningful partnership’s with our clients. Through extensive discussions and planning, it became clear that the key priorities of the project were ensuring access on delivery to Parliament House and respecting the heritage of the hotel, particularly when considering the aesthetics of the beds.

Careful thought was given when providing fabric options for the bedroom divans to General Manager Kerry Barron. “We wanted the selected fabric to align with the Victorian features and complement the existing décor of Parliament House,” said Kate Stott, Business Development Executive at Glencraft.

The Glencraft “Executive Mattress” was chosen for the hotel’s 53 rooms. In recommending this model, we carefully balanced the needs of the hotel’s guest’s along with the project budget. Designed with comfort and durability in mind, the Executive mattress is engineered to elevate the sleep experience, with each pocket spring adapting individually to provide exceptional support and minimise motion transfer.

Through a series of collaborative calls between the hotel management and Glencraft, careful planning was essential to ensure seamless access for delivery and installation of the beds and mattresses, particularly in the impressive turret rooms.

Kerry Barron Parliament House General Manager says:

From start to finish, Glencraft ensured that all details were addressed and planned to allow a smooth production & delivery of our bed renewal project. I am thrilled with the outcome and the mattresses are wonderful.

We’ve retained many period features and introduced a little local character to all our rooms. But we also move with the times and have incorporated all the latest in-room features that today’s traveller expects”
