Why do you sweat the bed?

We’ve compiled some top explanations for excessive night perspiration, and some simple solutions. It might be worth changing your duvet tog and opening the bedroom window before bed, to allow the temperature to cool down.

Our expert tips:

  1. Keep your bedroom around 20 degrees (or 68 degrees Fahrenheit). Some people may like it cooler, with a heavier tog duvet, but it’s all about finding what’s best for you.
  2. Swapping synthetic bedding for natural fibre bedding. Natural fibres provide better aeration and move moisture away from the body.
  3. Review your mattress. Memory foam can absorb and retain heat, causing some people to overheat at night, whereas natural fibres help to take moisture away from the body.

Don’t exercise close to bed as your body takes around 3 to 4 hours to cool down. We’d recommend working out 5 to 6 hours before bed.

Heartburn can also be a cause night sweating, which can be caused by spicy or high fat foods. Try eating earlier in the evening and reducing portion size.
