Your Dog Is Dreaming About You
Many people think that when their dog is asleep, moving it's legs and breathing a little heavy, that it is dreaming of running through fields, maybe even chasing rabbits.
This is very likely to be true, but it has also recently been found that dogs may also be having loving dreams of their owners too. In fact, dogs are said to dream of daily events in it's life, and their owners are likely to be a big part of those dreams.
Dr Deirdre Barrett is a clinical and evolutionary psychologist at Harvard Medical School, and she has reported that dogs are likely to dream about what happened to them during the day, much like humans. She goes on to say, “Since dogs are often extremely attached to their owners, it’s likely your dog is dreaming of your face, your smell and of pleasing or annoying you”.
In humans, our muscles are kept from moving during sleep by a mechanism in the brain.
However, we can act out in our dreams during REM sleep. This is exactly the same thing that happens with dogs when they move and act out running or chasing in their dreams.
While it is said that adults and children can have happier dreams by having better daily experiences, the same stands for dogs. Have loving and playful daily experiences and your dogs are likely to have happy dreams, and dream of you as their owners.
